This black male obtained no titles at shows, altought he received good reports from various judges. The dog's owner, Mr. Vogel, was more interested at that time in working the dog. Vello passed his Schutzhund III 35 times, came 4th and 6th at the DV working show and also won several working test. He also earned his 'Körung'. He became very important to the breed thought his two sons Bryan and Bonni von Forell. Vello proved that the Dobermann could be not only an exellent working dog but also an exellent show dog. If Mr. Vogel had devoted more attention to showing Vello he would undoubtedly have acquired many titles.
At the age of 15 months he had already won a CACIB show in Pirmassens, even though he was entered in the junior class. This is extremely unusual in Germany. The judge Mr. Dietmann described the dog as follows: 'This 15 month old male is elegant, with a beautiful head and neck. Good eyes and correct dentition. Exellent topline, however the tailset could better. A good front and well angulated hindquarters, movement free and correct'.
It was a pity that this male, two months later at the Bundessieger show at Frankfurt, entered the ring too late. The judge Mr. Schulz had already placed the dogs and so was unable to alter his decision. Of course the male had his faults. It was said that his back was too long, his head too feminine and he lacked bone and substance. Nevertheless he left behind many good progeny, both working and show, when he died at the age of 9 year.
